The recent growth of non-geographic phone numbers (NGNs) has made them one of the most popular services for new businesses. Though it sounds a bit technical, they are simply numbers without area codes. This means that customers cannot identify the exact location of the company they are calling. Why is this important? Well, for small businesses NGNs can level out the playing field a bit, since consumers often assume that these numbers belong to national companies. And as consumer surveys confirm, most people prefer dealing with big businesses over small ones.
But a gold and memorable 0845 number provides many other important benefits. While it is true that these numbers do charge customers for calls, they are far less expensive than other non-geographic numbers. They are also much cheaper for the company. By comparison, the only NGN that does not charge customers for calls is the 0800 number. But while these numbers are rightfully preferred by customers, they are also much more expensive for the company. This is due to the fact that 0800 numbers charge companies for each and every call, while 0845 numbers charge at a fixed rate.
Another obvious advantage of these numbers is that they let companies select their own numbers. Businesses can then use a memorable number in their marketing or advertising campaigns. For example, most businesses immediately select phone numbers that spell out the company name, which obviously makes them memorable.
