In April of 2009, Apple announced that users had downloaded one billion applications from their website. Because the company was the first to reach this milestone, the news served as a wakeup call to other Smartphone manufacturers. Since that time dozens of companies have been trying to catch up to Apple, but the news just keeps getting worse, for them.
What do we mean? Well, a scant six months after the company made their first announcement they made another one that claimed that users had downloaded another one billion apps. Three months after that Apple released a statement saying that users had downloaded yet another billion iPhone Apps . Are you starting to see a pattern here?
The fact is that users have been accessing these apps with greater frequency since they were first released in 2007. Why has Apple achieved such astonishing success? To begin with, the iPhone is one of the most popular Smartphones on the market today. Not only is it easy to use, but it also connects users almost instantly to the iTunes store, where they can download applications.
Apple has also done a fantastic job of marketing new apps by offering many of them for free on a trial basis. At present, the company has over five-thousand free applications that are available to download from their website.
Lastly, the Apple catalogue is without equal. Currently, the company offers over one-hundred thousand applications. As we said, many of these applications can be downloaded for free or for a nominal fee.
